Newsletter March 27

Highlights:

  • Our Remonstratio to Bishop Fisher was confirmed received on 3/17/25 – within the requirements of the appeal process.  The Bishop has 30 days to respond, or not.  No response is legally considered a negative reply.

  • We were made aware of an interim appeal step that can be made 10 days after the Bishop received our Remonstratio.  This step is also to the Dicastery of Clergy in Rome and is a request for them to suspend all actions of the Decree until all appeals have been exhausted.  This document will be sent to Rome through the Nuncio in Washington D.C. on March 28, 2025.

  • Regarding the Remonstratio, the full Dicastery of Clergy appeal with many attachments will be sent to Rome within 15 days of receipt of a negative reply from the Bishop or within 15 days of no reply from the Bishop after his 30 window has been met.  This appeal will request the Decree be revoked, not just suspended.  We believe we have a strong case, but ask for your continued prayers as we navigate this process.

  • We are exploring options for a 501(c)3 trust and will provide more updates in the coming days.  The intent is to continue to support St. John’s while preventing the funds from being used to fund the bankruptcy.

  • Please continue to support St. John’s with your time, talent and treasure.  Raffle tickets are on sale at each Mass.  Please also consider signing up for the Dough to Go food options online when they become available.

  • Our website https://www.savestjohnsolean.com/ and Facebook page continue to be quite active.  Please share with your friends and family.

Please consider respectfully writing to the Bishop, showing your support for keeping St. John’s as a parish.  The address is Most Rev, Michael Fisher, Bishop of Buffalo, Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, 795 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14203.  Please copy Dan Hinz with any letters sent.
